During the SeeD exam in Dollet, players will have to fight Elvoret at the top of the communications tower and Siren can be drawn from this enemy in the same way that magic is drawn. If for some reason she is missed at this point, Siren can also be drawn from Tri-Point in Ultimecia Castle later in the game.
Siren's Silent Voice attack does not have an elemental affinity and only does a bit of damage, though it does inflict Silence on enemies. While she seems rather weak from this point of view, some of her abilities are super helpful. Move-Find allows you to find hidden save points and draw points, Treatment cures all status ailments from party members, and Mag Bonus boosts the mag stat of characters when they level up.
They can be found in the Tomb of the Unknown King. While players must visit this location as part of the storyline, they only need to go as far as the entrance and so can easily miss out on this GF. Players must defeat them in battle in order to receive them as a GF. Their Brotherly Love attack is earth-based and does not affect flying enemies. Diablos is one of the most powerful GFs in the game and can be obtained by defeating him in battle. Players are able to battle him by using the Magic Lamp item that Cid gives to Squall before you leave for Timber.
Diablos uses Dark Messenger, a gravity-based attack that does damage based on Diablos's level as a percentage compared to the max HP of the enemy that it is being used against.
There are also some useful abilities that Diablos offers, such as Darkside, which increases STR but causes the character to lose some HP, and Mug, which allows the character to steal from enemies. Carbuncle can be obtained by drawing it during the battle with the Iguions in Deling City.
However, if it is missed at this point, then you can draw it from Krysta in Ultimecia Castle later in the game. Carbuncle's Ruby Light attack casts Reflect on the entire party. Leviathan can be obtained by drawing it during the battle with NORG, but only after he has been removed from his pod.
If you miss it at this point, you can later draw it from Trauma in Ultimecia Castle. Leviathan uses Tsunami, a water-based attack that can also kick enemies out of the battlefield.
Pandemona can be drawn from Fujin during the battle with both Raijin and Fujin in Balamb Garden, or later from Red Giant in Ultimecia Castle if you miss it the first time around. It uses a wind-based move called Tornado Zone. It's not a particularly strong GF, but it does have some useful abilities and will likely be the first GF that players come across that offers speed increasing abilities. A serpent who specialises in drenching the battlefield with a tactical tsunami, Leviathan is your go-to GF for balancing your elemental offense and defense, perfect for junctioning your magic for some of the toughest fights around.
Leviathan is also a handy ally who can learn the Recover ability that allows for a party member to fully restore their health. With the added bonus of a permanent increase to your Spirit with every level up, Leviathan is a natural at maximising your longevity in and outside of battle. Do you like massive wind damage, being able to junction magic to your strength and speed stats, and a crazy ability that allows you to devour enemies in one big gulp?
Location: With Galbadia occupying the nearby town of Balamb, Squall and company soon find themselves fighting against former allies in the local hotel: Fujin and Raijin. While the vast majority of GFs can be summoned to deliver some form of damage, Cerberus is different. This three-headed hellhound will instead cast Double and Triple on your party. Useful for tough battles, Cerberus can also learn an absurd amount of junction abilities, quadruple your status defense, and add auto-haste to a party member.
For those players who rely on magic, Cerberus also reduces the toll of dual-casting spells and its unique ability allows for your party to avoid being attacked from behind. Holy… well, holy elemental damage Guardian Force!
Location: All roads lead to Edea in the Battle of the Gardens, and when you finally face her for a rematch, Alexander can be drawn forth from the deadly sorceress. One of the best and worst GFs around, Tonberry may be lacking in attack power but its abilities that extend beyond the battlefield more than make up for its weaknesses. Able to increase player evasion and luck stats with its junction options, Tonberry is also a travelling merchant who allows for item shops and weapon upgrade stores to be called up from the menu no matter where you are.
Even better, Tonberry can learn how to haggle, resulting in steep discounts and profitable sales for your party. Keep defeating these creatures, and eventually the Tonberry King will challenge you. Speed, luck, and evasion. Persevere, drop some heavy attacks and eventually Jumbo Cactuar will be defeated, rewarding your party with a nice and shiny new GF. If you ever wondered what would happen if Thomas the Tank Engine had a bad acid trip, Doomtrain would be the answer.
The most useful GF around for striking your foes with a range of debilitating status effects, Doomtrain can leave your targets open for massive counterattacks and is perfect for farming experience points from the dangerous monsters lurking in locations such as The Island Closest to Hell. When it comes to junctioning, Doomtrain focuses on status attack and defense, while also being capable of learning Forbidden Medicine which can be used to craft the best recovery items.
Location: Once you have access to the Ragnarok spaceship, navigate your way to the Deep Sea Research Center which is located all the way in the bottom left corner of the map. Do not move when the pillar pulses, unless you want to engage in a random encounter.
FF8 Remastered is in an interesting position. A re-release two decades after its initial launch could be disastrous, but it's also a chance at redemption. One of the first things players will notice about FF8 Remastered is that many of its gameplay elements that were targeted as flaws during its time on the PlayStation One have aged miraculously well. In fact, as JRPGs have gotten more complicated and storytelling has gotten more ambitious, it's well worth considering whether or not FF8 Remastered is better suited for than it ever was for Controversial opinions aside, FF8 Remastered GF locations and abilities are a fundamental element of the game that isn't necessarily explained well.
Squall's turn in the remastered spotlight of FF8 Remastered 's improved graphics has been criticized as somewhat obtuse about many of its features, and FF8 GF locations and abilities are unfortunately a very real part of that. Luckily for those who don't want to miss out on a summon or a chance to use them in a really fascinating - or sometimes broken - way, Screen Rant has compiled a guide to help players navigate FF8 's choppy summoning waters like an expert JRPG navigator.
This will be player's first GF and, as a result, Quezacotl is unmissable. It's either obtained automatically during the trip to the Fire Cavern for the SeeD Exam mission or any time Squall accesses his study panel before that mission.
Quezacotl is the Thunder-based summon in FF8 Remastered and has one of the most important abilities in Card and Card Mod, two useful options that will help players obtain cards outside of Triple Triad and convert them into useful items later. Shiva is also unmissable, and can be obtained early by using Squall's study panel and watching the tutorial on GFs. Otherwise, she offers two key stat bonuses after meeting the requisite AP requirements during battle training.
We promise that some FF8 GF locations are important to know and can be missed, but Ifrit is yet another that will be simply given to the player for progressing through the game's first real mission at the Fire Cavern.
Ifrit is fought as FF8 's first boss and will then be added to Squall's roster of GFs once he is defeated. Ifrit has a unique ability in Mad Rush that has been abused by some party builds that focus heavily on physical attack damage to push through difficult enemies. Finally, a FF8 GF that can be missed! Siren is actually available very early in the game and is thus one of the most commonly missed GFs in the game, as players are still acclimatizing to the many complex systems in FF8 and might not think to cast Draw on a boss monster.
Siren is held by Elvoret, one of the bosses during the Dollet SeeD Exam mission that players fight at the top of the communication tower. Players simply need to Draw Siren from Elvoret before defeating it.
If Siren isn't obtained during that fight, it will be available as a Draw from another boss - only during the game's final dungeon, which severely hinders Siren's potential effectiveness over the game. Diablos is one of the reasons the FF8 GF system is so heavily criticized.
The extremely powerful summon resides in a magical lamp that headmaster Cid gives Squall before he leaves Balamb Garden for Timber, warning him not to use it until he's properly prepared and powerful. Centra Ruins are on the northeast part of the southern continent. Head to the top, collect the ruby eyes, put them in the top-most gargoyle to get a code. Remove the ruby eyes, go back down and put them in the other gargoyle and enter the code.
Go inside to fight Odin. Feel free to take as much time as you need to draw all the available magic as he never attacks. In fact, Gilgamesh replaces Odin, except instead of killing enemies outright, he can appear at any time and has a variety of attacks he can perform. To acquire Gilgamesh, simply acquire Odin any time before the end of Disc 3. Once summoned the first time, Phoenix will have a Click here for more guides related to Final Fantasy 8.
